A Day For Basics

Well here are again. So since we are in the first month of a new year what better time to recheck those basic thoughts, so here we go.

Weight Loss Basics

Your weight is a balancing act, and calories are just a part of that equation. Fad diets may promise you that counting carbs or eating a mountain of grapefruit will make the pounds drop off. But  when it comes to weight loss, it’s calories that count. Wight loss comes down to burning more calories than what you take in. you can do that by reducing extra calories from food and beverages and increasing calories burned through physical activity. That is right, change how you eat and exercise the two things that most people struggle with. But a firm commitment and follow through will show results.

Once you understand that equation your ready to set your weight loss goals and make a plan for reaching them. Remember  you DO NOT have to do it alone. Talk to your doctor, family and friends for support. Also plan smart, anticipate how you will handle situations that WILL challenge you. There will be challenges or you are doing something wrong. Stick to your resolve and work through the inevitable setbacks, plateaus being one of the major times when you will be tempted to give up. But push through and you will feel better for it and the great thing is the more you succeed the stronger you become. Sounds kink of like life hey?

If you have health problems because of your weight your doctor may suggest weight loss surgery or medications for you. In this case you and your doctor will need to thoroughly discuss the potential benefits and the possible risks. (here is a personal bit of advice, if you doctor tells you, “just get tough and pull up you boot straps” or “just push away from the table” find a new doctor.)

But DO NOT forget the bottom line is, the key to successful weight loss is a commitment to making permanent, that is right; P-E-R-M-A-N-E-N-T; changes in the way you eat and exercise, yup here it is again so you don’t miss it, CHANGE WHAT AND HOW YOU EAT AND E-X-E-R-C-I-S-E. These will not come easy but anything worth having is that which you work for not just handed to you. Weight-loss surgery is not a magic pill. I know you have heard me say this time and time again but it is true. You still have to change what and how you eat and exercise or even that tool will not do you any good.

Part of this article is taken from an article from The Mayo Clinic

So if you are ready to make a difference in your life, if there is someone you want to live longer for; besides yourself, get it done. Start today. You have heard there is no time like the present. I know you can do it. Find that POSITIVE support group where ever it is and bath in the sensation of it. It will get you through the tough times believe me on that.
